Background Angiopoietin-like Protein 3 (ANGPTL3) is a 70?kDa 460-amino acid long secretory glycoprotein primarily expressed in the liver. Mature mouse ANGPTL3 contains an N-terminal coiled-coil domain and a C?terminal fibrinogen-like domain. ANGPTL3 is implicated in angiogenesis and atherogenesis. ANGPTL3 can regulate serum lipid levels by acting on lipoprotein lipase- (LPL-) and endothelial lipase- (EL-) mediated triglyceride (TG) and phospholipid hydrolysis. Serum ANGPTL3 levels could serve as a biomarker for future occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) with coronary artery disease (CAD). ANGPTL3 acts as proangiogenic and could induce angiogenesis in vivo via binding of the C-terminal fibrinogen-like domain to the integrin αvβ3 receptor on vascular endothelial cells[1]. |
