the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to catecholamines, including the neurotransmitters dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. This O-methylation results in one of the major degradative pathways of the catecholamine transmitters. In addition to its role in the metabolism of endogenous substances, COMT is important in the metabolism of catechol drugs used in the treatment of hypertension, asthma, and Parkinson's disease. COMT is found in two forms in tissues, a soluble form (S-COMT) and a membrane-bound form (MB-COMT). The differences between S-COMT and MB-COMT reside within the N-termini (1). Recommended Applications WB, FC Applications and Recommended Dilution Factors WB: 1:1,000 - 10,000 FC: 1:10 - 100 Species Reactivity * Human, Rat *Species cross-reactivity is based on WB analysis. Products Data Western blot analysis on (A) fetal liver, (B) A431, and (C) Molt-4 lysates using anti-COMT RabMAb (cat. #5126-1). Flow cytometric analysis of A431 cells using anti-COMT RabMAb (red) (cat.# 5126-1) or a rabbit IgG (negative) (green). Specificity A synthetic peptide corresponding to residues in human COMT was used as an immunogen. |
